Richie Dalton and Dale Moscatt have driven their Shamrock Motorsport Ford Fiesta Proto to a comprehensive victory in the Rally of the Bay.

Their victory of over a minute and a half was their second win in three events, after recent success in a NSW rallysprint event in Sydney.

Despite a few niggling problems, they were never seriously challenged and won an event that was shortened after a number of accidents delayed the rally’s stages.

“After the teething problems that we’ve had with the car, it’s a bit of a relief to take the win,” Dalton said.

“We know that the car is very competitive, but we are still encountering some small problems along the way.

“We had an intercooler hose split, and we the brakes overheated on the second stage. Then we had a small gear mechanism failure that the team were able to fix quickly.

“But the car was fast, and again proved how competitive it is.”

In dry and dusty conditions, Dalton used WRC-spec DMACK rally tyres for the first time, and was pleased with their performance.

The rally was a round of both the NSW and Victorian Rally Championships, and while Dalton was not registered for points in either series, he showed all competitors a clean pair of heels.

A busy work schedule at his Shamrock Haulage business has now put Dalton’s rally program in a little doubt, and he is currently unsure of his next event.

“There’s a few things planned, but with work so busy at the moment it’s hard to commit to anything just yet,” he added.

The next round of the Australian Rally Championship is in Victoria in late August.
